If you're hitting the road today, check your route first. Record rain left waist-high floodwaters in parts of Palm Beach County. West Palm Beach set a daily record Monday with 7.39 inches, WPBF meteorologists said, and the National Weather Service's Nico Porcelli said about 18 to 19 inches fell over three days from the airport up to Palm Beach Gardens.

WPBF listed roads that may be shut down or have lane closures Tuesday, so look before you leave. Officials are urging residents to avoid unnecessary travel, and BocaNewsNow.com reported multiple rescue requests overnight as motorists got stranded. Don't drive through standing water; if you can't see the bottom, we suggest turning around.

That's the National Weather Service in Miami's estimate. Porcelli noted it wasn't even a tropical system.

  • Haverhill Road: 1300–2400 blocks, between 45th Street and Roebuck Road
  • I-95 north off-ramps: Blue Heron Boulevard and Gateway Boulevard
  • Also listed: Australian Avenue and the 1300 block of Congress Avenue
  • PGA Boulevard: near Karen T. Marcus Sandhill Crane Access Park

Elections

Flooding forced four Palm Beach County polling places to move on Election Day

If you voted Tuesday, you may remember the water. Heavy rain and standing water forced the Palm Beach County office to move four polling places before or during voting. Statewide, at least 21 polling places in eight counties had to move, the Florida Division of Elections said.

The Florida Division of Elections said they were forced to close and move on Tuesday.

Gov. Ron DeSantis declared a state of emergency for seven counties just ahead of Election Day. In West Palm Beach, candidate Elizabeth Holmes said the Iron Horse neighborhood was “severely underwater.” Officials moved its site the night before, she said, but conditions got worse and left residents stranded.

“That's why early voting is open for two weeks before, and vote-by-mail. Because anything could happen.”

The Wrap

South Florida's only real outdoor ice-skating rink is back at The Ben Hotel in downtown West Palm Beach, and it stays through Sunday, Jan. 3, 2027. Winter Wonderland at The Ben runs from Sunday, Nov. 1, so after days of rain, a little ice sounds like a fitting change of pace. Skates and sunshine, together at last.
