If you're driving today, check your route first. Officials in Palm Beach, Martin, Okeechobee, St. Lucie and Indian River counties have closed roads or told travelers to avoid them. In Okeechobee County, Highway 78 East will close at the 1600 block so crews can place a pump that can move up to 25,000 gallons of water per minute.

In Riviera Beach, the city declared a state of emergency as floodwater swamped the community. Residents carried belongings in trash bags and on rafts, and one person used a kayak on a flooded street. WPTV says St. Lucie, Indian River and Martin counties declared emergencies too.
