CRIME NEWS

  • The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office has launched a new animal cruelty unit that in its first three months reviewed 85 cases, charged 26 suspects, and seized 60 animals (including a miniature poodle) from unsafe conditions while urging locals to report any abuse.  WPBF

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Stiles-Nicholson Foundation (founded in 1992) helps students by funding a two million dollar AI learning tool program for Palm Beach County School District and building a 10,000 sqft innovation center with six labs at the Benjamin School that will open in October for the new school year.  WPBF

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • UF entomology professor Norman C. Leppla predicts that lovebugs, which swarm on Florida highways primarily in May and September, will be less abundant in most areas in 2026. Drivers are advised to time travel to avoid peak activity at 10 a.m. to reduce potential car damage.  Palm Beach Daily News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Citizens Property Insurance’s Board approved 2026 rate recommendations on Dec. 10 that may lower premiums by an average of 2.6% statewide pending final review by the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation. However, some counties, including Palm Beach, could see increases, and new rates will take effect on June 1, 2026.  Palm Beach Daily News

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • At a Dec. 9 decision, Jupiter’s planning board endorsed using about half of the 60-acre Beacon Park site at Indiantown Road and I-95 for single-family homes while the remainder will keep its industrial zoning. Town Council will review the developer’s plans, which include workforce housing by DiVosta Homes, on Jan. 20.  The Palm Beach Post
