COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The United Way of Palm Beach County is recruiting volunteers for its Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program that will offer free tax preparation services to lower-income families making $78,000 or less per year—training begins the first week of December through mid-January and processing starts in February. Volunteers must commit four hours a week and include both retired financial professionals and college students to gain IRS certification and serve the community.  WPBF

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Residents in Boynton Lakes remain uneasy after a coyote attack killed a dog two weeks ago, and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission held a virtual meeting advising residents to secure trash and keep pets supervised as daytime sightings continued near Jupiter’s Shores.  CBS12 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Florida Department of Children and Families said all scheduled November SNAP benefits were issued to eligible recipients as of November 14—recipients set to receive benefits after that date will get them on their normal schedule. Those who already applied do not need to reapply, as applications and renewals continue to be processed.  Palm Beach Daily News

HEALTH NEWS

  • A study by the National Institutes of Health showed lung cancer rates rose in nonsmokers during Lung Cancer Awareness Month—radon exposure, secondhand smoke, and genetics are possible causes—Dr. Marcus Eby from Tampa General Hospital Cancer Institute said early screening is important.  WPBF

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • As Thanksgiving nears, several national restaurant chains are offering takeout holiday dinners — easing meal planning with options from Bob Evans, Cracker Barrel, Denny's, Maggiano's Little Italy, and Popeyes. Customers in Jupiter can pick up orders starting Nov. 21, with meals featuring turkey or ham and assorted sides — and options available online or by phone.  Palm Beach Daily News

  • More than 25 Palm Beach County firefighters are training for the Palm Beaches Marathon to raise awareness and support for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. The group—Firefighters on a Mission, established ten years ago after Tim Petz's son was diagnosed—will run to honor affected families.  WPBF
