COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Local teen Dean Peoples, a seven-year cancer survivor, earned the Eagle Scout rank and became this week’s hometown hero. He is giving back to Ronald McDonald House—organizing a share-a-meal and updating its laundry rooms—to support the place that once helped his family.  CBS12 News
  • After federal judges ruled against suspending SNAP benefits, Subculture Group and Hospitality Helping Hands have partnered to offer one meal per family member at designated locations in Palm Beach County as residents face food shortages; SNAP card and ID are required—meals will be served during specific hours until supplies last.  WPTV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Junior Achievement of the Palm Beaches & Treasure Coast is hosting a free career fair for middle school students at CACTI Park in the Palm Beaches. The event will feature representatives from over 100 industries to guide students as they explore different career paths.  WPBF
  • The George Snow Scholarship Fund opened applications for its 2026 awards on November 1 to help students with financial need. Last year, the fund gave $5.5 million in scholarships to 374 students (in Palm Beach and Broward) and applications will close on February 1.  WPBF

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • King Tide flooding is possible this week along low-lying coastal areas in the Palm Beaches and Treasure Coast due to a higher-than-normal tide that can last for several hours, said certified meteorologist Brooke Silverang—saltwater flooding may affect roads and properties and the next full moon is November 5th.  WPBF
  • Loggerhead Marinelife Center in Juno Beach released 'Swim Shady,' a 268-pound loggerhead turtle that was hit by a boat and treated after being found with buoyancy issues—she underwent surgery to remove part of her shell and received antibiotics before being sent home Monday morning.  WPTV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Palm Beach County officials introduced a Food Bank Finder— a digital map listing 180 food bank locations— to help residents who lost SNAP benefits during the government shutdown. The tool shows meal times and eligibility details as many households wait for partial SNAP funds and face food insecurity.  The Palm Beach Post

HEALTH NEWS

  • Dr. Courtney Miller’s team reached a milestone in brain cancer research as the FDA approved their experimental drug MT-125 for its first human trials, which will start this month at Mayo Clinic sites in Florida, Minnesota and Arizona. The trial will run for about a year to test the drug’s safety and effectiveness — a key step in treating glioblastoma.  WPBF
  • Palm Beach County leaders held a press conference at the local Food Bank in Lake Worth after SNAP benefits ended over the weekend, warning that nearly three million Floridians might face food insecurity. Officials introduced the Food Finder Map—a tool that lists food pantries and meal sites—to help residents find food as demand continues to grow.  CBS12 News
