Good morning, Jupiter. Here's your local news at a glance for Saturday, the 1st of November.
COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Starting Monday, The Subculture Group will give free meals to SNAP beneficiaries at its restaurants—Howleys, Dada, Hullabaloo, Shanghai’d, Tryst, and all Subculture Coffee locations—as part of efforts during the shutdown when snap benefits end at midnight and many households in Palm Beach County may face food shortages. Founder Rodney Mayo said he hopes other local restaurants will help serve those in need soon. CBS12 News
- ➤ WPBF 25 is partnering with the Palm Beach County Food Bank and Treasure Coast Food Bank to launch a month-long food drive starting Monday (QR codes and website links will guide donations and provide local resource details) to support families in need (the initiative comes as community support grows amid ongoing challenges). - ➤ Earlier this week, CBS12's Liz Quirantes hosted the annual Palm Beach Advocates for Children Award honoring local heroes who support foster care for kids in our community. The event recognized honorees such as Outstanding Youth Advocate Nicole Williams and Speak Up for Kids Palm Beach—acknowledged by the West Palm Beach Mayor's office during a 20th anniversary milestone. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Last night, officials warned that Halloween was one of the most dangerous nights as crowded streets and extra traffic increased risks for pedestrians and drivers. Indian River County Sheriff's Office and Boca Raton Police patrolled the community and advised families to wear light-colored costumes and use crosswalks. CBS12 News
- ➤ Florida's Department of Children and Families confirmed that SNAP benefits will not be issued in November because the government shutdown has halted federal funding—nearly 3 million residents who rely on the program will only use existing funds and have their applications processed as usual.
