ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The National Hurricane Center says Tropical Storm Melissa will rapidly intensify, becoming a hurricane today and a major hurricane tomorrow, though it is expected to remain well east of Florida (with a 5% chance of outer bands brushing the southeast). Officials are also monitoring a tropical wave in the Atlantic whose effects remain uncertain.  Palm Beach Daily News
  • Tropical Storm Melissa is moving in the Caribbean and is forecast to rapidly intensify into a major hurricane by Sunday — warm waters and easing wind shear set the stage for high risks to Jamaica, Cuba, and the Bahamas— while Florida faces only about a 5% chance of tropical effects and is expected to have a cool Halloween.   Palm Beach Daily News
