BUSINESS NEWS

  • On Oct. 13, SpaceX launched its 403-foot Starship rocket from South Texas, and residents in Boynton Beach and Delray Beach saw its bright contrail near NASA, mistaking it for a meteor+ a Falcon 9 rocket also lifted off from Cape Canaveral later that night. The Starship flight test is part of Elon Musk’s project to send humans to the moon and Mars.  Palm Beach Daily News
  • On October 13, residents in Palm Beach County saw SpaceX’s Starship rocket, which launched at 7:23 p.m. from Starbase, Texas, streak across the sky near NASA’s Kennedy Space Center. Later that night at 9:58 p.m., a Falcon 9 rocket lifted off from Cape Canaveral and was seen in several nearby counties—reports noted a fiery trail spanning areas from Brevard to Indian River.  Palm Beach Daily News
  • After a Florida court invalidated the state’s open-carry ban, Publix now lets customers carry guns openly in its 900 stores — a change that has worried some shoppers while gun rights supporters praise the decision. Other chains such as Costco, Walmart and Target still ban visible firearms, and lawmakers are not planning to change gun rules in the upcoming session.  Palm Beach Daily News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • School board member Edwin Ferguson faced an ethics complaint after his comments on conservative activist Charlie Kirk’s death sparked protests outside the Palm Beach County School Board headquarters on Wednesday evening. Local NAACP branches defended his right to free speech—saying his remarks were his personal opinion—while some groups urged his removal.  WPBF

HEALTH NEWS

  • Palm Beach County Fire Rescue unveiled its Pink Fire Engine last month—timed with the start of Breast Cancer Awareness Month—to promote breast cancer prevention and detection. Survivors and family members signed the truck during the event to honor loved ones and show support for those battling the disease.  WPBF
  • The Florida Department of Health issued a water advisory for DuBois Park in Jupiter and Charlie Leighton Park in Palm City due to high bacteria levels—people are advised not to swim or kayak until the warning is lifted.  WPBF
