BUSINESS NEWS

  • Palm Beach County is drawing new businesses that plan to boost the use of quantum technology. Leaders at the Quantum Beach conference and 12 university representatives discussed how faster computing—helping with cybersecurity and research—will change many industries.  CBS12 News
  • Palm Beach County leaders announced plans at a recent conference to build a quantum computing hub that aims to attract tech companies and finance firms while Palm Beach State College will open an AI and quantum innovation center to train students for the emerging industry—efforts that build on the county’s track record of drawing innovative businesses.  The Palm Beach Post

EDUCATION NEWS

  • After several years of community buy-in and $22 million in renovations, Wynnebrook Elementary settled into its new building yesterday during a rededication ceremony with performances by each grade and remarks from school staff. The new campus features a newsroom, a cafetorium for musical theater, a science lab and an improved drop-off and pick-up line—four original oak trees were also kept from the old facility as a nod to its past.  WPBF

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Rough surf and heavy rain from king tides and offshore hurricanes forced Jupiter to close four beach access points (points 45, 47, 48 and 52), athletic facilities, a dog park and a skate park on Oct. 7 and Oct. 9. Town crews will repair erosion damage and reopen these sites on a case-by-case basis as conditions improve.  The Palm Beach Post
  • After over six inches of rain fell yesterday, the Town of Jupiter reported significant flooding and road closures near Maltz Theater on A1A and on a northbound lane of U.S. 1 near Ocean Way—drivers are urged to use alternate routes.  610 WIOD

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Florida’s open carry law is now in effect after a court ruled the ban unconstitutional on September 10th — the change took effect on September 25th and allows legal firearm owners to display their guns in public unless federal rules restrict them. Palm Beach County businesses have varied policies — while Publix now permits open carry, other private retailers ban it, and Sheriff Ric Bradshaw warned that citizens must handle their guns carefully.  The Palm Beach Post

HEALTH NEWS

  • Friday was Mental Health Awareness Day, and experts from HCA Florida JFK North Hospital explained how social media pressure and academic stress impact teenagers while discussing available supports like therapy and school services in Palm Beach County. Michelle Beatty and Dr. Juan Castro stressed that families should watch for changes in sleep, mood, and behavior—signs that professional help may be needed.  WPBF
