Here's your local news at a glance for Friday, the 9th of October.
Good morning, Jupiter.
🏘️ Community
Visitors to the oceanfront park will notice $16M improvements at the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse, featuring a new snorkeling area, expanded kayaking access and an 800-ft boardwalk.
The updates offer enhanced recreational opportunities to the community.
🌲 Environment
Jupiter residents will not feel a direct hit from Hurricane Isaias, which is expected to make landfall as a strong storm; instead a stalled front will bring heavy rain, thunderstorms (with potential for minor coastal flooding) later tonight.
🏥 Health
The Promise Fund is hosting free mammogram pop-up clinics throughout October at several community spots to help women get screened for early detection.
The nonprofit (serving Palm Beach, Martin, and Broward counties) partners with local churches and groups to provide screenings at no cost for those with or without insurance.
After Hurricane Isaias passed, a University of Florida microbiologist warned that floodwaters may increase the risk of flesh-eating bacteria in parts of Jupiter, so residents are urged to avoid contact during cleanup.
