- ➤ WPBF 25 News is partnering with local animal shelters to help pets like Rufus find forever homes. Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League will host the Bark Back Benefit on Saturday, Oct 18th—an event featuring live music, a dog costume contest, and a food drive to support families in need. WPBF

- ➤ Publix now allows customers to openly carry guns in its stores to comply with recent Florida law that lifted earlier restrictions. Store managers report that while employees must not carry guns on duty—this policy is set to remain even as other grocery chains may have different rules. Palm Beach Daily News
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ High tides and offshore storms have eroded our shores, so town leaders temporarily closed beach access points 45, 47, 48, and 52 from south of Ocean Club to Ocean Crest Condos to keep everyone safe. Repairs are underway and the areas will reopen when work is complete — access 48 needs extra restoration work coordinated with Palm Beach County. WPBF
- ➤ Jupiter has closed four beach access points north of Marcinski Road because high tides and offshore storms have eroded the coastline. Town officials will work with engineers and Palm Beach County to reopen the access points soon while local experts monitor the weather and turtle nesting at Loggerhead Marinelife Center. WPTV

- ➤ 1000 Friends of Florida filed a lawsuit on Oct. 8 in Leon County to challenge SB 180 — a state law that stops local governments from adding planning rules and has led cities like Jupiter and Naples to sue over its limits. - ➤ During Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Dr. Julian Berrocal of Jupiter Medical Center explained that about 1 in 8 women may develop breast cancer and urged regular mammograms starting at 40 to catch it early. He added that high-risk patients should follow up with extra screenings like ultrasound or MRI—early detection can lead to nearly a 99% chance of survival for those with early-stage cancer. WPBF
- ➤ Authorities issued a no-swim advisory for Dubois Park in Jupiter and Midtown Beach on Palm Beach Island because high levels of E. coli were found in the water—officials said they will update residents when the water is safe for swimming. WPBF
