- ➤ Two tropical systems in the Atlantic may bring strong winds, rain and high waves to Florida as Tropical Storm Humberto could reach Category 3 strength today while staying offshore and another system is expected to become a tropical depression near the Bahamas over the weekend; meteorologists advise residents from the Keys to the Carolinas to monitor local forecasts—weather balloons are being launched to track any unusual shifts in the storm paths. - ➤ On Sept. 30, Florida's minimum wage for non-tipped workers will rise from $13 to $14 and for tipped workers from $9.98 to $10.98 as set by the state’s amendment, while business groups warn the increase may push prices higher or lead to job cuts—this change is part of a plan to reach $15 by 2026. - ➤ Palm Beach County's new fiscal year begins October 1 as the Sheriff's Office budget will exceed $1 billion from a record $116 million increase driven by rising costs for personnel — which make up 80 percent of the budget.
