- ➤ Ernie Els and his wife Liezl broke ground today on a new autism-friendly recreation complex at the Els Center for Excellence in Jupiter that will include a pool to provide vital swim lessons and water safety education. They built the center ten years ago to support children and adults with autism—an effort inspired by their son Ben—and the new facility is set to open in 2027. CBS12 News

- ➤ A Riviera Beach man was bitten by a reef shark while spearfishing in the Bahamas on August 16 after setting out from Jupiter Beach and he flew to a Fort Pierce trauma center where surgeon Dr. Aleta Paschal repaired eight tendons in his mangled left hand and forearm—he left the hospital the next day. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Hurricane Gabrielle intensified to a major Category 3 storm with 120 mph winds by Monday morning per the National Hurricane Center—its forecast track shows it will pass east of Bermuda—and reached a point 180 miles southeast of Bermuda. While no watches or warnings have been issued in Florida, dangerous rip currents and rough surf are expected along the east coast in the coming days. Palm Beach Daily News
