FINANCE NEWS

  • Social Security recipients will get a 2.8% COLA increase in 2026—adding about $52 per month—while Medicare costs will also rise as Part B premiums jump $21.50 and Part D premiums can go up to $50 per month. These changes may not keep pace with inflation and will further strain monthly budgets.  Palm Beach Daily News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Local leaders from Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade counties sent formal letters to state lawmakers in Tallahassee asking for continued support for Tri-Rail after FDOT cut funding from $60 million to $15 million, leaving the commuter rail funded only until July 2027—officials are urging five more years of state funding and planning a meeting in the next two weeks.  WPTV

  • As back-to-school season drives an increase in coughs and sniffles, Dr. Riddhi Bowry of Jupiter Medical Center advises getting the annual flu vaccine early—she also recommends frequent hand washing, disinfecting surfaces, and testing for the virus if symptoms persist so antiviral treatment can begin promptly.  CBS12 News

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Flavor South Florida is back this September with 101 restaurants from Boca Raton to Sebastian offering three-course meals at discounted prices. CEO Kerri Paizzi said the event, which began in 2007 and runs until September 30 with some restaurants extending into October, gives locals a chance to try new dining spots—enjoying gourmet treats and hidden gems.  CBS12 News
