- ➤ The Town of Jupiter named longtime officer Don Hennessy as interim Chief of Police Tuesday. He served as Deputy Chief since November 2024 and began his career in 2002, with his appointment following former chief Michael Barbera’s retirement announced on August 14. CBS12 News
- ➤ On Sept. 8, the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services removed 17,311 packages of 7-OH from stores in 23 counties after an emergency rule placed the drug in the same category as heroin and LSD. Officials said the dangerous product marketed to teens is now illegal to sell, possess, or distribute — inspectors will continue efforts to remove any remaining stock. Palm Beach Daily News
- ➤ The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission will open bear harvest permit applications at 10 a.m. EST on Sept. 12 for the 2025 season running from Dec. 6 to Dec. 28. Hunters must be 18 by Oct. 1 and pay fees while applying online or through a license office until Sept. 22 — permits are issued by random drawing. CBS12 News
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The Florida Department of Health in Palm Beach County issued a health alert for 14 areas linked to Lake Okeechobee after blue-green algae toxins were found. Officials advised residents to avoid drinking, swimming or using watercraft in the affected waters and to provide pets and livestock with alternate water sources. WPBF
