- ➤ FBI is searching for Elaine Angene Escoe, 40, who is accused of stealing $34 million in COVID relief funds by filing more than 90 fraudulent applications from May 2020 to November 2021—she vanished days before her June 5 court date from Palm Beach County and is believed to have fled to Jamaica. - ➤ Palm Beach County public schools lost 3.4% of their student body this year and school principals are reaching out to teachers and parents about staffing adjustments over the first two weeks of September—district officials said that no layoffs are expected and a hiring freeze is in place due to factors like school vouchers, demographic shifts, and rising living costs.
