ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • University of Florida wildlife researchers in Fort Lauderdale are testing a solar powered tegu trap that uses AI—trained to recognize the species—to reduce the spread of invasive reptiles in South Florida. The traps notify researchers by text when a tegu is caught and further funds will be sought to adapt the technology for iguanas and Nile monitors.  The Palm Beach Post

  • Florida health officials reported that Vibrio vulnificus infections claimed a fifth life this year and cases rose to 20, with one case confirmed in Martin County—experts warn the bacteria can cause severe illness if not treated quickly.  CBS12 News
