  • Jupiter resident Gloria Meyer celebrated her 107th birthday on Wednesday at Mangrove Bay Senior Living Community—born in Iowa in 1918, she served as a Red Cross volunteer during WWII, taught high school, and traveled on more than 50 cruises; she shared that eating oatmeal daily is her secret to longevity while friends and family enjoyed cake, music, and her captivating stories.  CBS12 News

  • A man was caught on video repeatedly slamming a gopher tortoise along Jupiter's Riverwalk on Wednesday afternoon, and FWC is investigating the incident while asking witnesses to provide any additional tips.  WPBF

  • Jamie Kippenberger, a teen cancer survivor and Taylor Swift fan, said she just self-published her creative thinking journal 'Let's Get Weird and Artsy'—a project developed with her aunt.   • Tropical Storm Erin strengthened to 70 mph and likely became a hurricane on Aug.15; forecasts warn it will intensify to a Category 4 storm with 130 mph winds within the next three days—posing risks of dangerous surf and rip currents along the coast.  Palm Beach Daily News
  • At Busch Wildlife Sanctuary in Jupiter, Phelony the peregrine falcon injured in a plane strike last October is regaining strength after two surgeries on her right wing—staff are giving her physical therapy to help her prepare for a future release.
