  • On July 24, Jupiter residents honor two boys who went missing at sea ten years ago as their families and local groups work to boost boating safety and marine education. Their memories live on through new foundations and community efforts—reminding everyone to value safety and remembrance—across our town.  WPTV
  • The Palm Beach County Food Bank is serving free hot meals for children this summer with its new community kitchen—its Summer BreakSpot program gives breakfast, lunch and snacks at local sites for kids who miss school meals. By the end of the ten week program, the bank expects to serve between 60,000 and 70,000 meals and will offer weekend backpacks as school returns early August.  CBS12 News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Julia Dattolo, president and CEO of Career Source Palm Beach County, stated that unemployment reached 3.9% on Jul 22 due to seasonal graduates while 500 companies moved to the area, adding jobs in manufacturing, healthcare, and other sectors (the new Intern Palm Beach webpage will help match students with internships this fall, winter, and next summer).  WPBF

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Sea turtle babies are hatching on local beaches as leatherbacks, loggerheads and green sea turtles break out of their eggs during peak season through August—Loggerhead Marinelife Center reported over 15,000 nests this season, more than last year—and officials warn visitors to avoid bright lights and digging to help hatchlings find their way to the ocean.  WPBF

  • Palm Beach County opens applications today at noon for its HOME Investment Partnership First-Time Homebuyer Program, offering up to $100,000 for down payment, new construction and closing cost assistance, and it will close on Aug. 20 or when 100 applications are received—first-time buyers must not have held a mortgage for three years and need lender pre-approval. Applicants also must meet income and purchase price limits and buy a property within the county—funds are provided through $3 million in HUD support by the county's Department of Housing and Economic Development.  WPBF
