CRIME NEWS

  • On July 5, an 87-year-old Jupiter resident pointed a rifle-style BB gun at neighbors during a fireworks display—he later admitted to doing so to get their attention and was booked on five counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.  CBS12 News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Atlantic hurricane season produced three tropical storms so far with Andrea remaining short-lived over the subtropical Atlantic, Barry making landfall as a depression over central Mexico, and Chantal striking South Carolina’s coast over the weekend—forecasts show the season is ahead of the 30-year average with the first hurricane not expected before August 11. Additional data indicate that tropical systems may form in the northern Gulf, the Eastern Seaboard, and the western Caribbean as July unfolds.  WPBF
  • Seaweed Greens in West Palm Beach has developed a process to remove pollutants from sargassum — turning it into organic fertilizer and soil amendments that help restore coastal ecosystems. The company processes 20 tons of seaweed daily and offers a consultancy for communities to set up similar plants.  Palm Beach Daily News
