Here's your local news at a glance for Sunday, the 28th of June.
Good morning, Jupiter.
🏘️ Community
Today, the Palm Beach Center to Combat Antisemitism & Hatred, established in 2023, shows a long-term model using education, advocacy, partnership and shared security to unite community leaders.
It reached 160,000 students, trained 60 local leaders, and invested $1 million to support initiatives that strengthen trust in the region.
🎓 Education
Most Palm Beach County public schools will offer free breakfast and lunch for the 2026-27 school year, with nearly 75% providing meals automatically while families at other schools can apply for assistance starting July 27.
Non-eligible students will pay $2.50 for breakfast and either $3.50 or $3.75 for lunch.
🌲 Environment
The National Hurricane Center is tracking a tropical disturbance off Florida’s coast that may develop early next week (20% chance over seven days) and bring heavy rain.
Residents in Jupiter are advised to monitor local forecasts for updated storm warnings.
🏛️ Government
Jupiter Fire Rescue Division Chief Rob Ramirez and Captain Kenneth Olson are deployed with Florida Task Force 2 to help with international urban search-and-rescue operations in Venezuela after devastating earthquakes; the department will take over the city's live first-call emergency responses on Oct. 1.
Starting July 1, restaurants must list extra fees on printed menus, websites, and bills so customers know what they pay (the law was signed by Gov. Ron DeSantis).
The new regulation targets hidden gratuities and service charges that have caused dining confusion statewide.
