- ➤ Tommy Leal, 29, was arrested in Port St. Lucie after he allegedly fired at a trooper during an I‑95 chase on Sunday morning—driving a silver Mitsubishi Outlander with a Maryland tag at 85 mph and carrying guns with 25 shotgun shells—and officers recovered additional ammunition from his vehicle. - ➤ Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a bill that delays the rollout of later school start times for middle and high schools—allowing districts to file reports on challenges like transportation, childcare, and costs—and the change will only apply to the 2026-2027 school year so that the 2025-2026 schedule remains unchanged. - ➤ The George Snow Scholarship Fund awarded a record $5.5 million in scholarships to 374 local students today, giving them financial help as well as extra support for school—services like computer assistance and emergency funds to boost their chances of graduating.
