Here's your local news at a glance for Friday, the 5th of June.
Good morning, Jupiter.
🏘️ Community
Palm Beach County Food Bank expanded its summer feeding program to deliver about 5,000 meals daily to children under 18 at community centers, libraries, and camps—backpacks with food and volunteer efforts support families following Thursday’s CBS12 News telethon.
🎓 Education
The Palm Beach County school board will send a letter asking for details on Project Tango—a proposed AI data center near Saddle View Elementary School—as board members and residents voice concerns about its impact on students and staff; a vote is expected late next month.
🌲 Environment
Researchers documented the first olive ridley sea turtle nest in Florida at Jupiter Beach Park on May 18.
Wildlife experts say the rare nesting may be due to warming ocean temperatures + could signal future expansion of turtle nesting areas.
🏥 Health
Doctor Ahmed Allen from Baptist Health warns that summer heat can lead to heat cramps, exhaustion, and stroke—urging residents to stay hydrated, reapply sunscreen regularly, and avoid strenuous activities between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. This advice helps families plan safe outdoor activities.
Kevin Oliveira’s family filed a wrongful death suit against Botanic Tonics LLC for its kratom drink, Feel Free Classic, claiming it caused addiction, seizures, and health issues.
They allege local retailers sold it without warnings, and a medical examiner found high mitragynine levels when he was found unresponsive (April 2025).
🏈 Sports
Ahead of their fall seasons, two standout Palm Beach County running backs made waves at state championships: University of Miami commit Javian Mallory, who rushed for 123 yards and three touchdowns (overcoming injury challenges), and Cardinal Newman’s Phoenix Donghia, who signed with James Madison after rushing for 1,400 yards.
