COMMUNITY NEWS

  • WPBF 25 News is partnering with animal shelters on the Treasure Coast and Palm Beach County to help animals find forever homes; this week, Jasper is named Pet of the Week and is ready for adoption at Furry Friends.  WPBF
  • Palm Tran is offering discounted youth passes for unlimited rides to high school, middle school and elementary students during June, July and August. Students must have a Palm Beach County school ID and a valid school email to register at $20 per month.  WPBF

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Starting next school year, some Palm Beach County schools will offer free meals only to qualifying students, charging $2.50 for breakfast and $3.50 for lunch for others, while local food programs ramp up support as families face higher meal costs (concerns grow among residents).  WPTV

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Researchers from Loggerhead Marinelife Center documented Florida's first olive ridley sea turtle nest on Jupiter Beach when Tini came ashore on May 18. The center will collect genetic samples after hatching (to monitor local nesting behavior) and study why the rare turtle appeared here.  CBS12 News
  • WPBF 25's 'Hurricane Ready' special airs today at 8 p.m. on WPBF (the local channel) and shows cutting-edge storm tracking and lifesaving tools to help residents prepare for hurricane season. The program spotlights vulnerable areas like the Jupiter Inlet.  WPBF

  • Florida Division of Emergency Management Director Kevin Guthrie advised residents to prepare for hurricanes by building emergency kits, knowing evacuation zones, and keeping vehicles fueled+ he stressed that those outside mandatory evacuation zones may be safer sheltering in place.  610 WIOD

HEALTH NEWS

  • With summer underway, water safety expert Keri Morrison of the Live Like Jake Foundation warned local parents that drownings can occur in just 21 seconds—she urged constant supervision, proper pool fencing, and enrolling children in self-rescue swim lessons.  WPTV
