COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Neighborhood Farmer's Market at Tradition Square will close one hour early this summer, operating (9 a.m. to 1 p.m.) for July, August, and September. The six-year market hosts over 100 vendors offering local produce, honey, and bread while welcoming families and pets.  WPBF
  • WPBF to the Rescue is highlighting Coco Pop and Rice Krispies (this week's pets) available for adoption at Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League. The initiative helps local shelters in Palm Beach County and along the Treasure Coast find forever homes for animals.  WPBF

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Pace Center for Girls is launching its free Summer Credit Recovery Program for middle and high school students falling behind academically and needing extra support. Executive Director Mindy Hanken and counselor Silvia Grant visited ARC Florida on May 7 (to assess the program’s counseling and life skills training).  CBS12 News
  • Palm Beach County offers controlled open enrollment that lets families apply to switch schools if they missed earlier choice or magnet deadlines. Applications are accepted until Friday, May 22 + a lottery determines placement when seats run short, and transportation is not provided.  WPBF

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office launched a real-time alert system that automatically sends texts, phone calls, emails, and voicemails to houses of worship when violent incidents occur within a quarter-mile; faith leaders attended training sessions and alerts will begin on Tuesday with plans to later include schools.  CBS12 News

HEALTH NEWS

  • South Florida authorities remain alert to a dangerous designer drug, cychlorphine (a synthetic opioid 10 times more potent than fentanyl), which has been linked to seizures and suspected overdoses. The DEA reported 26 samples since April 2024 and warns that even a small amount can slow breathing.  CBS12 News
