Good morning, Jupiter. Here's your local news at a glance for Wednesday, the 14th of May.

CRIME NEWS

  • On Tuesday morning, Jupiter police responded at 8 a.m.—in the 1000 block of Town Hall Avenue—to a domestic disturbance call where they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound; he received immediate medical aid until Palm Beach County Fire Rescue transported him to St. Mary’s Medical Center, and authorities said there was no ongoing threat to the public.  CBS12 News
  • The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office executed Operation Moto Madness in Wellington from January 20th to February 20th—arresting 16 people and issuing 51 traffic stops, 26 citations and 24 warnings to curb the illegal use of electric motorcycles on public streets.  The Palm Beach Post

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Atlantic hurricane season will begin on June 1 and is expected to bring more storms than usual with forecasts predicting between 13 and 21 named storms, 7 and 10 hurricanes, and 3 and 5 major hurricanes. The National Hurricane Center will start daily tropical outlooks on May 15 to help locals check flood-prone areas and evacuation zones.  Palm Beach Daily News
  • Local experts and kayaker Alex Sundstrom advise everyone to act as if alligators are in every Florida water body—this means avoiding feeding them, moving in the opposite direction if one comes close, and watching your step when getting in or out. The guidance comes after a woman died in a canoe on Lake Kissimmee on May 6, and it urges swimmers and paddlers to use designated areas during daylight.  The Palm Beach Post

FINANCE NEWS

  • Florida homeowners' insurance often excludes coverage for natural wear and tear, sinkhole damage and negligence-induced issues + does not include flood protection, so new homeowners should carefully review their policy details ahead of the 2025 Hurricane Season. Recent legislation and rate reductions have slowly stabilized the market while buying new policies remains difficult during severe weather periods.  Palm Beach Daily News

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Local kayakers Malise and Alex Sundstrom often encountered alligators on their trips in Jupiter, with photos from Riverbend Park in July 2022 and near Love Street in June 2018 showing the wildlife up close.  The Palm Beach Post
