  • Publix, the largest grocery chain in Florida — founded in Winter Haven — remains open on Mother's Day with normal hours from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. as stores close only on Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter and adjust hours during hurricanes.  Palm Beach Daily News
  • Florida Power and Light is strengthening its power grid by replacing wooden poles with concrete, placing powerlines underground, and using smart grid technology to quickly identify outages ahead of the hurricane season starting June 1.   • Faith Miles and Reymond Martinez, both 28, allegedly stole over $2,000 in merchandise from Walmart on Indiantown Road in Jupiter Tuesday at 5:07 p.m. — they jumped into a canal to evade capture before officers caught them.  CBS12 News

  • More than 4,000 cans of Yellowstone inspired baked beans sold in 23 states—Florida, among them—were recalled due to undeclared soy that poses a risk for severe allergic reactions; consumers are urged to return the product for a refund.  Palm Beach Daily News
  • Jupiter Medical Center is promoting stroke awareness this month by urging residents to learn the signs of a stroke—like sudden weakness and slurred speech—and to call 911 if they notice these symptoms.
