EDUCATION NEWS

  • Calvary Church is proposing a K-12 school for 980 students on an 18.8-acre site off Rocky Pines Road + the plan has raised traffic concerns among residents fearing community changes. A public meeting will take place on April 28 at 7 p.m. at Jupiter Farms Park pavilion.  WPTV
  • Three Jupiter High School juniors launched an Instagram page + petition to support teacher pay raises after the district rejected a 3.5% increase. They plan to attend the May 6 school board meeting with around 100 classmates while the district cites a $66 million revenue loss.  WPBF
  • Palm Beach County school board will vote on May 6 on a proposal for a 3.5% teacher raise that may require cutting student services + laying off up to 192 teachers amid falling enrollment and many unfilled positions.  WPTV

  • Sargassum seaweed has begun to pile up along Florida beaches, causing a strong odor that may irritate eyes, nose & throat and impact nearby tourism and fisheries. The FWC and DEP are monitoring the bloom as Memorial Day weekend approaches.  Palm Beach Daily News

  • The U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced Monday that Ayco Farms Inc. recalled 8,302 cartons of fresh cantaloupe because of salmonella concerns. The recalled produce was distributed in Florida and other states, and consumers are advised not to eat it.  610 WIOD
  • Local health professionals advise residents to monitor blood pressure at home in calm settings to avoid false spikes, as updated guidelines flag more cases from diet and stress+ they recommend lifestyle changes to lower heart disease and stroke risk.  Palm Beach Daily News
