  • Engineers at L3 Harris Technologies west of Jupiter are building the RL10 engine for NASA's Artemis program to help return astronauts to the moon for the first time in over 50 years. The engine will power Artemis 2 as it lifts off from Kennedy Space Center on Sunday, Feb. 8.  WPTV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Loggerhead Marinelife Center in Juno Beach partners with the Perry J. Cohen Foundation to offer a free two-day boating safety course named after a 14-year-old lost at sea. The course features classroom instruction and on-water training — meeting Florida Boating Safety Education Identification Card requirements next month.  610 WIOD

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Farmers across South Florida are evaluating crop damage after an overnight hard freeze. In West Palm Beach, Tropical Acres Farm owner Alexander Salazar said covered trees fared well (while larger in-ground trees show damage), and officials in St. Lucie County noted minor leaf bruising in citrus groves.  WPBF
  • A historic cold front ignited a flurry of frozen iguanas across Palm Beach County as residents rescued lizards that appeared lifeless on trees. Residents warmed one found in Palm Beach Gardens (its tree known from a barking dog) and the FWC allowed permit-free transfers to designated locations to aid recovery.  Palm Beach Daily News

  • New federal data shows that Americans born in 2024 can expect to live to 79 years — Floridians reaching just under 80 as COVID-19 drops out of the top 10 causes of death and overdose rates fall by 26.2% between 2023 and 2024.  Palm Beach Daily News

  • International Polo Tour plans a $300 million high tech polo stadium in Palm Beach County with artificial intelligence kiosks, robotic bartenders and human staff to support professional polo plus community events. The venue is expected to open by the end of 2030 and boost local tourism.  WPBF
