About this event

Please join us in welcoming author Peter King as he will be in conversation with coach Bill Parcells to discuss King's new book, THE GAME . Peter King will sign copies of his book following the conversation.

A vivid, revelatory portrait of the NFL in all its triumph, controversy, and complexity from one of football's most influential storytellers.

Peter King began covering the National Football League back when America favored football over baseball by only one percentage point. Writing about the NFL in the early days meant bunking with players in training-camp dorms, and enjoying unparalleled access to locker rooms, limos, planes, and sidelines that today's media can only dream of. For four decades, King stood shoulder to shoulder with the players, coaches, and owners, bearing witness to the moments that shaped the modern game. In THE GAME , he draws on a lifetime of reporting - mostly for Sports Illustrated , where he became one of the greatest chroniclers the NFL has ever seen - to deliver a magnum opus of sportswriting that accounts for the league's explosive rise and how it grew into the nation's dominant cultural force.

As legendary quarterback Troy Aikman notes, "Peter King has stories no one else can tell."

Drawing on forty years of unmatched access and reporting, King pieces together the history of the individuals and decisions that shaped football's remarkable ascent. The result is THE GAME - a vivid, revelatory portrait of the league in all its triumph, controversy, and complexity from one of football's most influential storytellers.

Peter King wrote for Sports Illustrated from 1989 to 2018, including the weekly multiple-page column "Monday Morning Quarterback." he is the author of five books, including Inside the Helmet . He has been named National Sportswriter of the Year three times.

Bill Parcells, the only coach in the NFL history to take four teams to the playoffs and three to conference championship games, led the New York Giants to Super Bowl titles in 1986 and 1990. He went on to be the general manager or personnel VP for three franchises, including the Dolphins, before retiring after his final stint in Miami in 2010. Parcells had an excellent coaching tree, with 17 former assistant coaches going on to head-coaching jobs in pro or college football - including Super Bowl winners Bill Belichick, Tom Coughlin, and Sean Payton. An ardent horseman today, Parcells lives in Saratoga Springs, NY and Tequesta, FL.

Peter King will sign copies of THE GAME after the discussion.
